The Department of Social Science and Creative Arts at E. P. College of Education, Amedzofe stated functioning since 2004 with the introduction of Diploma in Basic Education (DBE) in the Colleges of Education. Currently, the department offers specialism courses in Social Studies, Geography, History, Religious and Moral Education, Music and Dance, Fine Arts, and Home Economics in preparing undergraduate student teachers interested in teaching these subjects at the basic level.

The Department’s multi-disciplinary nature allows faculty to integrate knowledge and expertise from different fields in preparing student teachers pursuing courses in the department. We apply the methods and approaches of the social sciences in helping student teachers to understand, become concerned, and challenge issues associated with socio-economic, technological, and environmental challenges and change confronting our society, nation, and the global community today. We also lead our student teachers with an enriching range of educational experiences, including hands-on preparation and participation of student teachers in faculty led lessons.

The Department of Social Science and Creative Arts has uncompromising discipline and flawless implementation of academic policies, which makes the Teaching-Learning environment conducive for all types of student teachers to fulfil their dreams of becoming specialist professional teachers.

Courage Jerry Worlanyo Mawutor is a Senior Tutor and Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Social Science and Creative Arts of E. P. College of Education, Amedzofe. He is a trained teacher with over 22 years teaching experience. Mr Mawutor holds a Master of Philosophy in Social Studies, Master of Arts in Human Rights and Bachelor of Education in Social Studies all from the University of Education, Winneba, and a 3-year Teacher’s Cert ‘A’ from Peki College of Education, Peki. He has been teaching Social Studies at the E. P. College of Education, Amedzofe for the past 14 years and has also served in different offices in the College. He is an open-minded personality and ready to work with everybody for the development of the College. His research interests include human rights, conflicts management and development, gender, culture and development issues, and professional development in teacher Education.
